The actual Oxen shoe I found in my yard

Those of you who know me, or are regular readers of my blog, are aware of my fondness for Oxen Shoes.

This fondness was not derived out of a genetic predisposition toward the objects, it was born out of necessity, due to  my uncanny ability to locate every oxen shoe within a 300 foot radius at every site I hunt (and yes, my parents are very proud).

wpid-Photo-20140514201814.jpgI set out the other day to scout a spot for a future hunt in an area I had thought about going to many times, but I had just never gotten around to it.

I started off following a trail through a small pine grove, and then I was in a swamp. Discouraging, yes, but… what else is new? Swamps are everywhere around here, hence the reason my hometown was called Swampville a few hundred years ago.

I was contacted last week by a gentleman named Adam in Katonah, NY, who had lost his wedding band while doing some yard work.

I was more than happy to help Adam out, and showed up determined, with my detector in hand.

After introducing ourselves, Adam gave me a backyard tour of the area he was working in, where he suspected he lost the ring.
