**THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED**If you read my previous review on the X-pointer pinpointer by Deteknix, then you’re probably already aware of its popularity among detectorist’s.
I’ve been using the X-pointer myself, for a while now, and I still have nothing but good things to say about it. It’s sensitive and stable, doesn’t false, and depending on the soil conditions, I think it has greater depth than the manufacturer states.
So, with my great opinion of it, I decided to tune in to the Detect America radio show last Friday, as they were reviewing various pinpointers.
Of course, the Garrett Pro Pointer received its usual popular review, and it is well deserved, because the Pro Pointer is a good probe. I used it exclusively for many years, and with much success until I discovered the X-pointer.
However, as the reviewers turned their attention to the X-pointer, I was very disappointed by what I felt was a somewhat misleading review. One reviewer stated that the X-pointer’s sound and vibration doesn’t oscillate, when in fact, as a user of this probe, I know that it does indeed increase as you get closer to your target. It is not a contact pinpointer, as was suggested, and as I said, has great depth.
Interference between one’s detector and the X-pointer was also noted by the reviewer, with him stating that you can’t use it within 6-7 feet of your machine (I believe the reviewer said he was using a CTX3030).
I just came across this video demonstrating proximity –vs- interference with the X-pointer, using a variety of machines, including the CTX3030, and it’s clear that any interference is minimal (at about 14 inches).
I have used the X-pointer with both my E-trac and SE, and have not experienced any interference. But I also don’t lay my machine down right next to the hole I’m digging.
So far, the only complaint I have about it, is that when I received mine, the “hot pink” color choice was not yet available (you know how us ladies love pink). I was bummed to miss out on that color selection, but in my eagerness to put it to the test, I decided that instant gratification trumped color selection.
In addition to “hot pink” being a cool girlie color, it makes sense for either sex to have a brightly colored pinpointer. It can help aid in its recovery when you realize as you reach for it that it’s not there, and you have to retrace your steps in hopes of finding it.
Anyway, because of my great experience with, and enthusiasm for the X-pointer, I contacted my local distributor, Ron DeGhetto at Gold Digger Metal Detectors in New Jersey, and asked him if he would be kind enough to donate one to Detectingdiva.com as a giveaway.
Not only was Ron generous enough to donate one, he donated a “hot pink” one—awesome! Thank you Ron!
